For the past ten years, Aksharam in collaboration with The Pravasi Today Group organises International Hindi Festival – the largest annual global event held. Famous Hindi scholars, writers, intellectuals, expatriate writers, journalists, theater personalities, etc. participate in the event. Every year, the programme receives the support of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations.

This year, the Festival is being organised from January 10 to 12. The programme will start on the occasion of World Hindi Day on January 10 and will conclude on January 12. The event is organised by Pravasi Duniya ( No 1 NRI Media Group, Aksharam ( International literary organisation, Hansraj College, Delhi University, and is being supported by ICCR and Vishnu Prabhakar Janmstabdi Committee.

The Festival would be inaugurated at Azad Bhavan, New Delhi in collaboration with ICCR. The inauguration would be graced by Dr. Namvar Singh, Dr. Ved Pratap Vaidik, Dr. Ashok Chakradhar, eminent writers, journalists, Director General of ICCR, ambassadors  of several countries, senior representatives of Government of India and eminent members of NRI communities.

In the event, alongside many eminent NRI scholars and writers alongwith Indian writers like Chitra Mudgal, Devendra Raj Ankur, Sheen Kaf Nizam, Manoj Srivastava and Kailash Pant, will be felicitated. In the cultural programme theatrical staging of Awara Mesiah and international poetry recitation will be the main attraction.

• Exhibition: “Homage to Tagore through Bengalˮ; by Papia Ghoshal in cooperation with Embassy of India, Prague; Exhibition is held in   Brněnské kulturní centrum, Galerie 10, Radnická 10, Brno; July 25 – August 1, 2011, Mo-Fri from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
• Bringing out a special issue of India Perspectives on Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore in Czech language.
• Screening of Indian movie “Paheliˮ on Saturday 20.8.2011, 5 p.m. at Embassy premises (Eng. Riddle, 2005, 134 min, Czech  subtitles, Director: Amol Palekar; Stars: Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Rani Mukherji, Suniel Shetty, Juhi Chawla). Paheli is a love story based on “Duvidhaˮ, Vijaydan Dethan´s re-telling of a classic Rajasthani folktale. In true fairytale style it tells the story of Lachchi (Rani Mukherji), an innocent girl married to Kishan, whose only real interest is money. On the night of their marriage, he leaves to pursue his business interests. However a ghost (Shah Rukh Khan) has fallen in love with Lachchi and when Kishan goes away he takes on his appearance and wins everyone´s hearts. When the real Kishan finally returns five years later, confusion understandably abounds until finally a wise old shepherd (Amitabh Bachchan) devises the three tests to resolve the “paheliˮ that has baffled everyone.

• 12- member Rajasthani Folk Dance Group led by Mr. Salim Khan Langa will be performing at Pilsen Tourism Expo (ITEP) on 20 and 21 October.

Manav (Akshaye Khanna), the brilliant young son of NRI billionaire (Amrish Puri), falls in love with the beautiful Mansi (Aishwarya Rai), a gifted folk singer and dancer on his visit to a small town in Himachal Pradesh.  But their love pledge is threatened when Mansi and her highly respected father, folk singer Tarababu (Aloknath), are insulted and humiliated by Manav’s family in Mumbai. Disillusioned, Mansi vows to climb up the ladder of success in Manav’s ruthless world of materialism with the help of Vikrant (Anil Kapoor), a music composer and head of an entertaining company.  Soon the three are locked in an intriguing situation, looking for a solution.

Amongst the communal riots that erupt in the city, Tara (Sunny Deol) shelters a wayward Sakina (Amisha Patel) from a crazed mob and a bond that blossoms in to love is created. The two eventually get married and have a son. The happy family, now living in Amritsar, gets the shock of their lives when Sakina learns that her father (Amrish Puri), whom she previously believed died in the riots back in Amritsar, is still alive after seeing his picture in a tattered, old newspaper. Upon contacting him, Sakina´s father, now the mayor of Lahore in Pakistan, arranges for his daughter to arrive in Lahore to see him. Sakina leaves for Lahore minus Tara and her son, and upon reaching the city, learns of her father’s plans for her – plans that include forcing Sakina to forget about her family and start life anew in Pakistan. Then begins an extraordinary journey which will lead Tara to cross the border into Pakistan to find his love.

Architectural glory of the Sun Temple, beauty of desert palaces, majestic Taj Mahal, abandoned city of Fatehpur Sikri. These Indian architectural jewels and many more will introduce a new exhibition of a water color paintings ”Monuments of India“. The exposition takes us through different periods of Indian history. From dawn of Buddhism, through Mughal era and so called Indo-Islamic architecture to the inspiration from Europe. During the month of May, also Cooking Demonstration will be organized. June 2011 Exhibition of Tagore´s paintings to mark the 150th Anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. Kathak Dance performance. Lecture by Prof. PhDr. Jaroslav Vacek, CSc. – Director of Institute of South and Central Asia – Faculty of arts, Charles University. Screening of documentary on India. Yoga demonstration. Plánované aktivity kulturního oddělení Velvyslanectví Indie Duben, 2011 Otevření studovny a knihovny. ICCR sponzorovalo fotografickou výstavu “Kostely a křesťanská kultura v Goi”, která se konala v Ostravě od 29. března do 6. dubna. Út 26.4. 17:30 – 19:00 Přednáška “ Rabíndranáth Thákur a Československo” Přednášející: Mgr. Martin Hříbek, Ph.D. – Přednášející na Karlově univerzitě. Shrnutí: Thákur, velký bengálský spisovatel a mnohostranný umělec, první osobnost Asie, která obdržela Nobelovu cenu za literaturu, poctil Prahu dvakrát svojí návštěvou. Tato krátká setkání s pražskou inteligencí a uměním, zanechala trvalé dojmy, vzbudila mnoho ohlasu a dále zpopularizovala jeho díla mezi širokou veřejností. Přednáška bude zaměřena na Thákurovo spojení s Prahou. (Přednáška se bude konat v budově indického velvyslanectví.)
