Message

It gives me great pleasure that the Embassy of India, Prague, is bringing out the revised edition of “India and Czech Republic – Doing Business”. We have incorporated changes since the last edition came out in March, 2008. In a sense, the events have overtaken us as the two way trade have grown faster than we could have envisaged at the time. It has gone up fourfold in last four years. This indeed reflects dynamism of the economies of the two countries. Despite the global slow down, India’s growth rate is expected to be 7.2% in 2009. In 2010, this is expected to go up to 8.5%, and 9% next year.

When the first edition was brought out in 2004, we were hoping to attain an annual target of US$300 million. In 2009, the bilateral trade exceeded US$ 1,030 million. During our Commerce Minister visit to Czech Republic in September 2008, our Commerce Minister and the Czech Minister of Industry and Trade agreed that the target should be to double the bilateral trade in next three years.

As Czech Republic assumed the EU Presidency, India has also moved closer to the European Union. Our attempt is to bring together business sectors of both countries. We hope that this volume would contribute to this process.

Place: Prague
Date: March, 2010
